7 Questions with Sally Shiff, Recruiter for Nisha Global

7 Questions with Sally Shiff, Recruiter for Nisha Global 6 Sally Shiff is a recruiter at Nisha Global, the international arm of Nisha Group which specializes in placing executives and other professionals in the hitech, biotech and financial industries (Hebrew). 1) How long have you been in the recruitment industry? I made aliya in 2007 from Tucson, Arizona (USA) and have been with Nisha since December 2007. Before arriving in Israel, I was Regional Human Resources Manager at the RadioShack Corporation for almost 7 years. 2) Does Nisha work with non-Israelis? It's not so much a question where the candidates come from; more important is what our clients' needs are. Nisha Global deals with Israeli companies that are looking to fill positions outside of Israel, such as in Singapore, the UK, the United States, etc. The rest of Nisha Group focuses on recruiting in Israel. 3) If I'm planning a move to Israel, how long in advance should I contact Nisha? 30-45 days, but beware that interviews are done face-to-face so you really do need to be here. Your resume will go into a database. If your qualifications match an opening, you will be contacted and an interview will be arranged. 4) How important is Hebrew for Nisha recruiters? It depends. Everybody does speak English but you usually need a good command of the Hebrew language. Among other reasons, you might need to use Hebrew software at work. Start learning Hebrew. 5) What should job seekers do to make it easier for a recruiter to find them a job? Have a good resume since it's the resume that will get you to the interview. Bring yours to someone who knows how to write resumes. Make it short, sweet and to the point. Keep it simple. Avoid gaps. Avoid fluff. Anything you put on the resume should be provable such as “I hired x number of people.” Don't fake anything, it will usually be discovered right away. Finally, don't be afraid to send in an English resume (in Israel, at least). Send out a cover letter expressing interest, contact information, and then followup, followup, followup. It really does help. Have reasonable expectations and don't come with the belief that you're automatically going to get the job just because you have a good resume. Try to understand the recruiter's point of view. We see 100-200 resumes a day. What have you done that would make yours stand out? 6) Do you have any other recommendations? There are many good jobs to be found via word of mouth so keep networking. Also, LinkedIn is very popular with recruiters, so have a strong profile. (For that, use the Gigantic Tips Guide for Finding Jobs With LinkedIn) 7) What is the strangest resume mistake that you've seen candidates make? All I'll say is that when you're giving an email on your CV, don't use an email address like “sexy69@yahoo.com” or similar.

Sack Your Boss! 6 Steps to Start a Business

Sack Your Boss! 6 Steps to Start a Business A career as an entrepreneur is quite lucrative. To become an entrepreneur, you need to have plenty of confidence, motivation and the courage to take risks. In the modern-day world, there are multiple examples of successful entrepreneurs. If the story of an entrepreneur highly motivates you and you dream to make your own mark, you can decide to start on an entrepreneurial journey. If you havent decided to leave work just yet, check out So You Want to Leave a Job You Hate. If you are already on your way, here are the 6 ways to becoming an entrepreneur: 1. Think of a Unique Idea The journey of an entrepreneur begins with an idea which has the potential to bring success. If you want to prove your entrepreneurial talent to the world, you should start brainstorming to come up with a great idea. If you are already working in an industry, you should try to figure out the gaps that other businesses have been unable to fill up. Once you have identified the loopholes in an industry, you can rack your brains to come up with an idea in the form of an effective solution. 2. Believe in that Idea Whether or not you have strong belief in the idea you have come up with can make all the difference. If you don’t believe in an idea really strongly, it will fail even if it was a unique one. Once you have thought of a great idea, you should have enough confidence to make it work for you. It is your determination which will matter more than actually the idea that you hit upon. 3. Write Out a Plan To make an idea really work well, you should prepare a concrete plan. Successful entrepreneurs have always put their entire plan in written. Right from creating the product to marketing it to the target audience, you need to focus on every detail. Don’t forget to do extensive industry research to write out a great plan to make the business idea come to life. 4. Get the First Round of Financing In the initial stage of your entrepreneurial journey, you will need to arrange for the first round of financing. This is where putting your entire business plan to paper comes in handy. When you have a written plan in hand, you can easily put across your point to venture capitalists. 5. Start Working When you have the finance available to start your entrepreneurial venture, it’s time to prove yourself. Use appropriate resources to accomplish the project within the pre-decided timeframe. You should also have the motivation to overcome the barriers that you might face while moving ahead. Be inspired and continue to move on with a positive attitude. 6. Connect with Other Entrepreneurs You must have heard the line that ‘being with a winner makes you a winner’. Now that you are in business, you should adopt the habit of networking with other successful entrepreneurs. Networking with other entrepreneurs keeps you motivated as well as abreast of the latest tips and tricks of the trade. So, are you determined enough to set out on your entrepreneurial journey? 8 Smart Strategies to Conquer Your Workplace - Classy Career Girl

8 Smart Strategies to Conquer Your Workplace On the outside, everyone who wins at life seems to do it with ease. Life seems to get handed to winners as they confidently stroll through the workplace. So, is it possible for you to have that easy stroll through the workplace too? There are just a few steps to become one of those successful  people. If you want to conquer your workplace here are a few ways to start acting like the successful person you are: Confidence Confidence is key. It’s the belief in yourself that you can do something. If you have the skills  and know that you can be on top, then showing, or even bragging about those skills to other people will help them fully appreciate what you have to offer. If you are the best accountant in your firm, you darn well better walk like it, talk like it, and help others achieve the same awesome success you exude by utilizing your ‘best accountant in the firm’ skills. Persistence You will fail a hundred thousand times in your life. If you keep track of every slight fall, every day will seem like a failure, but every step you take without slipping is a successful step. You might fall every 1,000 steps, but that’s a 99.9% success ratio, persistence makes you a mega-star. Fail today, try again tomorrow, switch something up, learn from it. It’s far from a failure, but if you just can’t shake that feeling of failure or hopelessness, escape from the situation for a moment. Stepping back, taking a walk, or even a much-needed vacation, can help you come back recharged, and better for the fight. Trying is half the battle, so don’t stop. Relax Relax. People, like dogs, can sense stress, it creates uneasiness and think of you as untrustworthy. Stress is a killer to your productivity; it’s understandable that there may be stress in the workplace, but excessive amounts of stress can be a total effort exterminator.  Take a walk around the block, get a cup of green tea, or kick off your heels, shut your office door and have a 5 minute dance party to some sweet sweet saxophone sounds. Let your mind drift like a turtle lost on the great current for a few small breaks through-out your day. It’ll help your confidence, your productivity, and your happiness at work. Learn Never stop learning, everything is a lesson. There are two defined routes of learning: book smarts and street smarts. Find something that works for you! Learning with life lessons, this means looking into what other people in the industry are doing at the time and staying aggressively competitive in the field. Other people want a defined, trackable way of learning. There are a few ways of doing this within your company, for free. Taking advantage of free online classes, like free excel tutorials, or taking massively open online courses (MOOCs) are a tremendous boost to your own knowledge bank. Because only about  4% of people who are enrolled in MOOCs actually complete the course, holding seminars/’learnsdays’ in your office would be the best way of showing off your moxie (rather than simply plugging it into your resume). Prioritize Prioritizing your work vs. play time will offer you happiness in the long run. If you are really satisfied with your job, then you may not need to prioritize work vs. fun because for you they are the same thing. For all the rest of us, taking the time to exercise and take care of ourselves is a priority that we do not make #1 enough. This may mean delegating work to an intern who is chomping at the bit for more progressive tasks, or setting aside tasks that are not time-dependent. It may seem silly, but organizing a set list of tasks for your day will propel you forward, there is something so rewarding about crossing out items on a list, even if they are silly things like “get coffee with Jen at 10:45”. Set Goals Lining up your goals not only for today  but for the long-term is one key to success that pushes those brilliant, confident people like yourself from middle management to the top. It’s one thing to know you can do your bosss job, it’s another to devise a plan to either be in their position  or another equal. Over-throwing your boss is not a good idea, but setting goals with other managers and supervisors outlining your plan in the company, and setting long-term goals with the company shows that you want to stay there, you want to move forward, and are willing to take the effort to do so. Set definite goals and let your higher ups know what they are so you can gain valuable get advice. Backtrack Take a full evaluation of your plans, and the ideas that may have passed before. Sometimes you already thought of the right answer but dismissed it too quickly. Taking time to evaluate all your options, even the ones from a few years ago, is necessary. Old ideas aren’t bad ideas. Flourishing people is to be  able  to backtrack to older thoughts, older plans, and adjust for the problems at present. If you are really stuck, try expanding the amount of solutions you have. This can help in situations where there seems to be only two solutions, neither of which seem attractive. Win! You are relaxed, confident, and good at your job. You can set goals, and achieve them in a quick confident manner. Like Charlie Sheen, you just keep #winning! Give it a go, winners win, but only losers need to call everyone else a loser to seem like a champion. Set yourself ahead of the pack with a winning attitude, because you are a triumphant boss, and can definitely do anything you set your mind to. Which workplace strategy are you going to use?

Beware of Recruitment Cowboys!

Beware of Recruitment Cowboys! The best people in your industry would never work with bad recruiters so why should you? There are very low barriers to entry in the world of recruitment; there is no training or license required. Anyone with a telephone and a computer can call themselves a recruiter. This allows for a great deal of competition which is great most of the time. The trouble starts when the recruitment bottom feeders cut corners and make concession on their ethics. This article is about knowing when you are dealing with an unprofessional recruiter, allowing you to filter these out in favor of the top recruiters you should deal with. The definition of working with a recruiter is actively sharing information and letting them represent you to job opportunities. A recruiter with little experience or simply lack of ethics can hamper your quest for a new job, as they can misrepresent you to the best companies. In this game you only get one chance so we have to make the most of it. The tell tale signs of a recruitment cowboy: Insufficient information: When the recruiter cannot give you the right information about the vacancy (such as salary, tasks, reporting lines), the company and sometimes even about the industry. There could obviously be legitimate reasons for this but in general this will be a bad sign. Bear in mind that a good recruiter would not work a vacancy without this information. Contingency (no win, no fee) assignments only: This means they have never actually been given the formal instruction to work on behalf of a company (retained search assignment). They are instead sending some candidates out to a job with the hope that the client will want to interview. Unless the client is game, you and the recruiter can do little else than wasting time. Only ever speaks with you when they have a role that fits: If you are not interested, they quickly move on to the next person on the list. Although this is the nature of the beast that is recruitment, a good recruitment company should stay in touch with people on their books regularly. This would typically be a call every 3-6 months for information sharing and general catch ups. This is essential for really understanding a candidate and knowing exactly what you are looking for. Not specialized in your field: There are many generalist recruitment companies of size that try to break in to niche job markets. Although the recruitment company may be well known, the recruiter doing your market might be working on their own and tasked to ‘build their market’ which is not easy and will certainly not help you. Focused on salary: Concentrates on your wages and other cash remuneration as opposed to what should really matter to candidates, e.g. growth, training and promotion opportunities. Again, a good recruiter would take a more holistic approach and see what will really make you happy with a new position. Very pushy: Tries to talking you into taking a job, sometimes not giving you enough time for your decision making process. This will inevitably lead to candidates making the wrong decisions and changing their mind shortly thereafter. Liberal with information: Drops names of your coworkers and managers in order to sound knowledgeable. This might impress some but in the end you know they will drop your name on the next call, which you are not likely to appreciate. Asks YOU for money: You should never have to pay for the services of a recruiter as the client (hiring company) pays the fees. If you are asked for money by a recruiter, ask exactly what it is for and then tell them where to stick it. If you come across recruiters like these, politely tell them you are either doing your own search or that you are exclusively working with another recruitment company. If they keep contacting you, ask to be removed from their books. By law they have to remove you and even send you a letter confirming the removal. Please note that the vast majority of recruiters out there are very professional and work hard on your behalf. And believe me when I say they are just as weary of cowboys as you are. In this way, to-do lists increase your capacity for staying focused on important things.6. Get the most difficult tasks done firstevalUsually, people start their day by resolving simple issues such as sen ding emails and communicating with colleagues. However, every task, no matter how hard or simple it may be, drains our energy and attention. Therefore, it is better to do complicated and creative work first and then move on to other tasks that require less focus and effort.7. Therefore, do not rush and do not pus h yourself too hard. Slow down and try to enjoy every step of your work more.13. Avoid using your phone or the InternetThe Internet, smartphones, television, and other modern technologies are major distractions that lower your focus and decrease efficiency.Although you may decide to check your phone for just a few seconds, bit by bit, it will drag your attention away, keeping you from completing your work for hours. The trick is:To increase focus, you should avoid using them while working. Try to keep the potentially distractive devices out of sight to reduce temptation and use them only in case of an urgent need.14. Every efficiency formula includes a well-developed reward systemRecognition and appreciation always serve as major motivators. But it is not enough to be appreciated by others; you also need to reward your efforts and accomplishments yourself.Your self-reward system can include any benefits you like, either material or non-material, e.g., purchases, tasty foods, small tr ips.Treat yourself once in a while.By recognizing our efforts and marking significant milestones with rewards, we become more satisfied working and stimulate our attention to details.15. Continual practice in being focused makes us more efficientAny person can improve their focusing abilities through regular training. You can start with short sessions that will last from 15 to 30 minutes. During one session, you need to pay your full attention to one task. Decoding The Secret - Kathy Caprino

Decoding The Secret Im writing today to discuss the idea of manifesting what we want in life, as this has been a topic at the forefront of many talk shows and public conversations of late. In particular, Id like to address some aspects of the book The Secret that I believe have been misinterpreted or misunderstood based on the sensationalized promotional and media coverage weve experienced around this work. If we can view this book as just one of many helpful tools in understanding our lives, but not consider this the answer to all of our problems, well be much more successful, I think, in understanding the principles it discusses. Unfortunately, many people Ive encountered have experienced distress because they believe they are failures at creating the lives they wish for, and they blame themselves for this failure. I do believe wholeheartedly in the concept of the Law of Attraction, and consider it a profoundly powerful principle at work in our world. By this I mean that human beings resonate and vibrate emotionally and energetically at certain levels, and the character of our energetic output will absolutely shape what is attracted to us in our lives. I remember even as a very young child being able to feel the energy of individuals and groups as a whole, and sensed when certain people emitted an energetic frequency that felt uncomfortable or discordant to me (I must say that this sensing ability made large gatherings and corporate meetings very challenging for me at times!). I know now that this energetic vibration is indeed palpable, and provides useful information for us, if well heed it. What does this concept of energetic resonance mean? I believe that when we are habitually engrossed in thoughts and actions of negativity, unkindness, judgment, cruelty, insecurity, and fear, and when we act from the belief that each of us is separate from all others, then there is virtually no way we can, with consistency and regularity, attract energetically to us that which resonates on a higher level (i.e., love, beauty, peace, harmony, compassion, oneness, fulfillment, joy, etc.). This is so because we are not in a place to be able to perceive or receive this higher level of experienceour filters will not allow it. So what can we do about it? The first step is to become highly aware of your thoughts, and how your thoughts feel. We must be aware of our beliefs and thoughts, and how they impact us emotionally and energetically. From this awareness, we need to choose better-feeling thoughts when we are distressed, upset, fearful, etc. We must actively select and reach for thoughts that bring us even a little bit of relief, release, peace of mind, and a trusting that all will be well in the end, and that we are able to cope with what were experiencing. This process expands and grows over time, and allows us to continue feeling relief, even in the face of upsetting events. Contrary to public opinion and some messages in the book The Secret and others, my experience with hundreds of distressed individuals reveals that we simply cannot shift from feeling as if our knees are knocking together in fear and negativity, to a state of utter peace, joy, and happy expectancy, in one fell swoop. This type of emotional turn-around requires great inner work and an ongoing commitment to the belief that we do indeed affect what we attract into our lives in fact, we co-create it. Knowing that we can and do influence what occurs in our lives reminds us that we are not hapless victims, but life students and lifetime learners we realize that what emerges is there specifically for us to embrace and learn from. From my vantage point, we are here to physically manifest and experience all of what life has to offer in order for us to hone our own deep and specific preferences for what we personally choose to bring forth into being. When we understand this concept, then feeling peaceful internally, despite what is occurring outside of us, is a natural and life-affirming way of being. As a helpful tool, Id like to recommend a wonderful and powerful book called Ask and It Is Given: Learning to Manifest Your Desires, by Esther and Jerry Hicks. This book, and the teachings of Abraham it offers, helps explain how reaching for a better-feeling thought is so powerful in manifesting what you dream of. Do check it out! To assist those who wish to understand the Law of Attraction a bit more deeply, Im holding a group coaching workshop that will explore this concept, and help you gain clarity about the messages and powerful lessons that your current life situation is revealing today (please contact kathy@kathycaprino.com for details). Id like to share with you too my belief that we are not here in this lifetime so that everything will be perfect, smooth, and carefree always, according to our individual plan. Our personal plans are always based on our own myopic and short-sighted views. I believe there is a higher and far more beautiful plan that incorporates all of us. We cannot see or know this plan, but trusting that it exists is very peace-inducing. It is so helpful to realize that we are not in total control of life, nor would we really want to be at this time in our development. There are things that occur in our lives that happen for our highest benefit and growth, and for the highest good of all involved, but often these occurrences may not remotely resemble what we would actively and consciously want to attract to us, because our understanding of our own potential is limited. How do we handle these unattractive events and situations then? We accept them for the lessons they offer, incorporate these insights and teachings as best we can, and then release the pain associated with them. And as we release the pain, disappointment, or trauma, wonderful new thoughts and beliefs bubble up to the surface that help us feel loved, supported, cared for, nourished, nurtured. In the end, we learn to trust that we are in good hands, always. The emotional pain is meant to be temporary, as a gentle (or not so gentle) nudge from the Universe to pay attention and continue to develop our preferences about these events or happenings. But holding onto the pain and projecting it into the future, as so many of us do, again misses the point completely. The secret isnt about bringing to you everything you want. Its about loving and embracing yourself and your life right now. The more you embrace who you are and what you have already created, the more you will experience an expansion of the feelings of gratitude, peace, joy, love, and fulfillment, no matter what the outer circumstances in life provide. When you achieve this type of internal acceptance and gratitude, and use your intuition and heart to guide you each day with each step, then life is inevitably filled with more and more to be grateful for each day. ************************************************************ Do you have any stories youd like to share about how The Secret and its concepts have (or havent) been of service to you? If so, please feel free to share your stories here. Id love to hear from you. Once again, thank you for reading and sharing. I am wishing you a time of great positive attraction and feeling good always! Kathy

Rules For Resume Writing - Format is the Key

Rules For Resume Writing - Format is the KeyThe rules for resume writing are rather straightforward and should be followed religiously. It is important to understand the reason why your resume is required and it should be easy to read and keep the reader interested so that he or she reads further. The importance of format in resume writing is also very important.Do not just fill your resume with a generic content. Generic content is also called one-line content. One-line content is an aspect of resume writing that needs to be avoided at all costs. One-line content may be that one paragraph on why you are the best candidate for the job. But if it is an empty paragraph and you do not get the reader interested enough then you should make sure that you have included at least two or three paragraphs on why you are the best person for the job.The basic resume is very short. Even the person who writes the basic resume is a candidate for the job and should know this by heart. You should not waste the reader's time with a one or two page resume. It is the reason why most resume writers do not like the rules for resume writing and make their resumes too long. When the reader's attention is captured, you need to keep reminding him or her repeatedly about what exactly he or she is reading. This will make it difficult for the reader to stop and look for more information from the resume.Always spell check the resume before submission. It is always better to check the resume first than to rush and submit it. No one likes to write or read or speak English errors or misspellings. Do your best to avoid this and if you find some then try to correct it before submission. One major benefit of the rules for resume writing is that it provides structure to your resume. If you are following the rules for resume writing then it would be quite easy to get organized. With no structure, you will find it difficult to compile and then assemble your resume. You will also find it difficult to wri te a resume without good organizational skills. Your resume will seem disorganized if it is composed of lots of stuff. If you follow the rules for resume writing then you will know which sections you have to keep and which ones you should leave out.Organizing your resume will also help you understand how to organize your future resumes. When you get your resume and you look through it, you will find that it is quite disorganized. It will take a lot of time to organize your resume but it will be worth it when you finally see your resume well written and organized.
